Sauces
Method
Marinating the Chicken
- 1
Prepare the Marinade
In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, sake, mirin, grated ginger, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes. Mix well.
- 2
Marinate the Chicken
Add the chicken wings to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
Breading and Frying
- 3
Prepare the Breading
In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 4
Bread the Chicken
Remove the chicken wings from the marinade, letting any excess drip off. Dredge each wing in the breading mixture until well coated.
- 5
Fry the Chicken
In a large pot or deep skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded chicken wings in batches. Fry for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Saucing
- 6
Prepare the Sauce
In a small saucepan, combine teriyaki sauce, honey, and minced garlic. Heat over low until warmed through.
- 7
Toss the Chicken
In a large bowl, add the fried chicken wings and pour the warm sauce over them. Toss to coat evenly. Serve immediately.
