Fried Alligator Bites Ingredients
Method
Directions for Fried Alligator Bites
- 1
Prepare the Alligator
In a bowl, soak the alligator meat in buttermilk for at least 1 hour. This helps to tenderize the meat and adds flavor.
- 2
Mix the Breading
In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, Cajun seasoning, salt, and black pepper.
- 3
Bread the Alligator
Remove the alligator pieces from the buttermilk and allow excess to drip off. Dredge the pieces in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Alligator Bites
Carefully add the breaded alligator bites to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Prepare the Dipping Sauce
In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, hot sauce, and lemon juice. Adjust the hot sauce to taste.
- 7
Serve
Serve the fried alligator bites hot with the zesty dipping sauce on the side.
