Patty Melt Ingredients
Method
Cooking Directions
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Thinly slice the onion. In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt, cooking until they are soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally.
- 2
Form the Patties
While the onions are cooking, form the ground beef into 2 equal patties. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- 3
Cook the Patties
In a separate skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Add the patties and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired doneness. Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.
- 4
Assemble the Patty Melt
On a slice of marble rye bread, place a patty with melted cheese, followed by a generous amount of caramelized onions. Top with another slice of bread.
- 5
Grill the Sandwich
In the same skillet used for the patties, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Place the assembled sandwich in the skillet and grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy. Repeat with the second sandwich.
- 6
Serve
Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve warm.
