Method

Fried Chicken

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Add the chicken pieces, ensuring they are fully submerged in the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Flour Mixture

In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Stir well to combine.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep skillet or Dutch oven, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the right temperature.

  4. 4

    Coat and Fry the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating. Carefully place the chicken in the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/75°C).

  5. 5

    Drain and Rest

Once cooked, transfer the fried chicken to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Crispy Coleslaw

  1. 6

    Mix the Vegetables

In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage and grated carrot. Toss well to mix.

  2. 7

    Prepare the Dressing

In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper until smooth.

  3. 8

    Combine and Chill

Pour the dressing over the cabbage and carrot mixture. Toss until everything is evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Mashed Potatoes

  1. 9

    Boil the Potatoes

Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 10

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash using a potato masher or fork until smooth and creamy.

  3. 11

    Serve

Transfer the mashed potatoes to a serving dish and keep warm until ready to serve.
