Method

Meatloaf

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and half of the ketchup. Mix until just combined.

  3. 3

    Shape the Meatloaf

Transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan, shaping it into a loaf shape. Spread the remaining ketchup on top of the meatloaf.

  4. 4

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).

Caramelized Onions

  1. 5

    Slice the Onions

Thinly slice the two large onions.

  2. 6

    Cook the Onions

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, salt, and sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 30-40 minutes, or until the onions are deeply caramelized and golden brown.

Mashed Potatoes

  1. 7

    Boil the Potatoes

Peel and cut the potatoes into chunks. Place them in a pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 8

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.

Mushroom Gravy

  1. 9

    Prepare the Mushrooms

    Clean and slice the mushrooms.

  2. 10

    Cook the Mushrooms

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they are golden brown.

  3. 11

    Make the Roux

Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir to combine. Cook for 1 minute.

  4. 12

    Add Broth and Seasonings

Gradually whisk in the beef broth and soy sauce, stirring continuously until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and black pepper.
