For the Mascarpone Mixture

Method

Prepare the Coffee Mixture

  1. 1

    Brew Coffee

Brew 1 cup of strong coffee and allow it to cool slightly.

  2. 2

    Mix Coffee with Liqueur

In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee, coffee liqueur (if using), and 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Make the Mascarpone Mixture

  1. 3

    Whisk Egg Yolks

In a large bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until pale and creamy.

  2. 4

    Add Mascarpone

Gently fold in 1 cup of mascarpone cheese until smooth and combined.

  3. 5

    Whip Cream

In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream with 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

  4. 6

    Combine Mixtures

Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until fully incorporated.

Assemble the Tiramisu

  1. 7

    Soak Ladyfingers

Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them for too long, and arrange them in a single layer in a 9x13 inch dish.

  2. 8

    Layer Mascarpone Mixture

Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the soaked ladyfingers, smoothing it out with a spatula.

  3. 9

    Repeat Layers

Repeat the process with another layer of dipped ladyfingers followed by the remaining mascarpone mixture.

  4. 10

    Chill

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight if possible.

  5. 11

    Serve

Before serving, sift cocoa powder over the top and garnish with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
