Preparation
- 1
Muddle the Sugar and Bitters
In an Old Fashioned glass (or any short glass), place the sugar cube. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters directly onto the sugar. Muddle these together using a muddler or the back of a spoon until the sugar is dissolved.
- 2
Add Whiskey
Pour 2 ounces of bourbon or rye whiskey over the muddled sugar and bitters mixture. Stir gently to combine the flavors.
- 3
Add Ice
Add 3 ice cubes to the glass. Stir gently again to chill the drink without diluting it too much.
- 4
Garnish
Using a vegetable peeler or knife, cut a strip of orange peel. Squeeze the peel over the drink to release the oils, then drop it into the glass. Finally, add one maraschino cherry as a garnish.
