Method
For the Mozzarella Sticks
- 1
Prepare the Cheese
Place mozzarella sticks in the freezer for about 30 minutes to firm them up. This helps prevent them from melting too quickly during frying.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
Prepare three shallow dishes: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of bread crumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 3
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep pan or fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of bread into it; if it sizzles, it’s ready.
- 5
Fry the Mozzarella Sticks
Carefully place breaded mozzarella sticks in the hot oil, frying a few at a time to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
For the Marinara Sauce

- 7
Combine Ingredients
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir to combine.
- 8
Simmer the Sauce
Bring the sauce to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
- 9
Serve
Remove the sauce from heat and serve warm alongside the fried mozzarella sticks.
