Biscuit and Toppings
Method
Preparation Steps
- 1
Make the Biscuits
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the milk until just combined.
- 2
Shape and Bake
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently. Pat into a 1-inch thick round. Cut into rounds and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- 3
Prepare Strawberries
While the biscuits are baking, slice the strawberries and toss them with 2 tablespoons of sugar. Let them sit for about 10 minutes to macerate.
- 4
Whip the Cream
In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
- 5
Assemble the Shortcake
Slice the baked biscuits in half. Layer the bottom half with vanilla ice cream, followed by the macerated strawberries, and top with whipped cream. Place the biscuit top on and serve immediately.
