Preparation of Shrimp
- 1
Clean the Shrimp
Rinse the large shrimp under cold water to remove any debris. If the shrimp are not already peeled and deveined, use a sharp knife to remove the shell and vein.
- 2
Prepare the Lemon
Cut the lemon in half. Squeeze the juice from one half over the shrimp, reserving the other half for serving.
Cooking the Shrimp
- 3
Boil the Shrimp
Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add a tablespoon of salt and the Old Bay seasoning, if using. Once boiling, add the cleaned shrimp and cook for about 2-3 minutes, or until they turn pink and opaque.
- 4
Chill the Shrimp
Remove the shrimp from the boiling water and immediately transfer them to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Let them chill for about 5 minutes.
Serving
- 5
Plate the Shrimp
Drain the shrimp from the ice water and pat them dry with a paper towel. Arrange them on a serving platter or in individual cocktail glasses.
- 6
Add Cocktail Sauce
Serve the chilled shrimp with cocktail sauce on the side. Garnish with lemon wedges for an added touch.
