Meatballs

Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, egg, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the meatballs on a baking sheet.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and bake the meatballs for 20 minutes or until cooked through.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Onion

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic and Tomatoes

Add minced garlic and cook for another minute. Then, add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well.

  3. 6

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Combine Meatballs with Sauce

Once the meatballs are cooked, add them to the saucepan with the tomato sauce. Stir to coat the meatballs in the sauce.

  2. 8

    Layer with Cheese

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). In a baking dish, place half of the meatball and sauce mixture, layer half of the mozzarella cheese on top, then add the remaining meatballs and cover with the rest of the mozzarella cheese.

  3. 9

    Bake

Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from oven and garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
