Clean the Clams
Rinse the fresh clams under cold water to remove any sand or debris. Soak them in a bowl of salted water for about 30 minutes to help purge any remaining sand.

Cook the Linguini
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the linguini and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside, reserving some pasta water.
Making the Sauce

Sauté Aromatics
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes. Sauté for about 1-2 minutes until the garlic is fragrant but not browned.

Choose Your Sauce Base
For white sauce: Pour in the white wine and let it simmer for about 5 minutes until the clams begin to open. For red sauce: Add the crushed tomatoes and let simmer for about 10 minutes.

Season the Sauce
Add the chopped parsley, salt, black pepper, and lemon juice to the sauce. Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes.
