Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Rice

Rinse the long-grain white rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then drain well.

  2. 2

    Sauté Aromatics

In a medium saucepan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

  3. 3

    Cook the Rice

Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan and stir to coat the rice with the oil, cooking for about 2 minutes. Pour in the tomato sauce, vegetable broth (or water), cumin powder, chili powder, and salt. Stir well to combine.

  4. 4

    Simmer

Bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 20 minutes or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.

  5. 5

    Fluff and Garnish

Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and stir in the chopped cilantro before serving.
