Carnitas Ingredients

Method

Cooking Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

In a large bowl, combine the pork shoulder with orange juice, lime juice, garlic, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Rub the mixture all over the pork, ensuring it's well coated. Let it marinate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.

  2. 2

    Slow Cook the Pork

In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the marinated pork on all sides until golden brown (about 5 minutes per side).

  3. 3

    Cook in Oven

Transfer the seared pork to a slow cooker or oven-safe dish. Add any remaining marinade and cover. If using a slow cooker, cook on low for 8 hours. If using the oven, preheat to 300°F (150°C) and roast for about 3 hours, or until the pork is tender and shreds easily with a fork.

  4. 4

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the cooker and let it rest for a few minutes. Then, shred it with two forks, discarding any excess fat.

  5. 5

    Serve

Serve the carnitas warm, topped with chopped white onion, cilantro, and a side of verde marmalade.
