Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the onions

Slice the medium onion into thin rings. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the sliced onions and sauté them until they are golden brown and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

  2. 2

    Prepare the beef patty

In a mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Form the mixture into two equal patties.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Grill the patties

In the same skillet used for the onions, add another tablespoon of butter and heat over medium-high heat. Once the butter is melted and bubbly, add the beef patties. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired doneness.

  2. 4

    Assemble the patty melt

Once the patties are cooked, place a slice of American cheese on each patty. Allow the cheese to melt for about 1 minute. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

  3. 5

    Grill the sandwich

In the same skillet, add a slice of rye bread, then place a cheeseburger patty with melted cheese on top. Add a generous portion of the caramelized onions and top it off with another slice of rye bread. Grill the sandwich for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve the Patty Melt

Once grilled, remove the sandwich from the skillet and allow it to cool for a minute before slicing in half. Serve warm with your favorite condiments or fries on the side.
