Preparing the Burger Patty

Make the Patty Mix
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Form the Patties
Divide the beef mixture into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty, making it about 1/3 pound in weight and slightly larger than the burger buns, as they will shrink during cooking.

Build the Burger
On the bottom half of each toasted bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, and a tablespoon of ketchup and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
