Method

Beef Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef

Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Rub the beef roast with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Place in a roasting pan.

  2. 2

    Roast the Beef

Pour the beef broth into the roasting pan. Cover with aluminum foil and roast in the preheated oven for about 3 hours, or until the meat is tender and easily shredded.

  3. 3

    Shred the Beef

Remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes. Shred the beef using two forks and set aside in the beef broth.

Red Sauce

  1. 4

    Cook the Sauce

In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

  2. 5

    Simmer the Sauce

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Assembly

  1. 6

    Assemble the Sandwich

Split the New York style rolls in half. Place shredded beef on the bottom half of each roll, then spoon red sauce generously over the beef.

  2. 7

    Add Cheese

Top each sandwich with shredded mozzarella cheese.

  3. 8

    Melt the Cheese

Place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for about 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Serve hot.
