Method
Prepare the Onions
- 1
Slice the Onions
Peel the large onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
Make the Batter
- 2
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Whisk until well mixed.
- 3
Add Water
Gradually pour in the cold water while whisking, until the batter is smooth and has a slightly thick consistency. Adjust with more flour or water if necessary.
Fry the Onion Rings
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
- 6
Fry the Rings
Carefully drop the coated onion rings into the hot oil, working in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried onion rings from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
