Method

Beef Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Beef

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined to avoid overworking the meat.

  2. 2

    Form Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to ensure even cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Heat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grill grates or skillet with cooking spray or oil.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip. Add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the patty reaches desired doneness.

Toppings and Assembly

  1. 5

    Prepare Toppings

While the patties are cooking, wash the lettuce leaves and slice the tomato and onion into rings.

  2. 6

    Toast the Buns

Optionally, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  3. 7

    Assemble the Burgers

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, spread ketchup and mustard to taste. Place the cooked patty with melted cheese on top, followed by lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles. Top with the other half of the bun.
