Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, add the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

  6. 6

    Divide the Batter

Divide the batter into two equal portions. In one portion, fold in the cocoa powder to create a chocolate batter.

  7. 7

    Pour the Batter

Pour the vanilla batter into two of the prepared pans and the chocolate batter into the third pan.

  8. 8

    Bake the Cakes

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. 9

    Cool and Assemble

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. Once cool, layer the cakes with fresh fruit and dust with powdered sugar.
