Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Sticky Rice
Soak the sticky rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight. Drain and set aside.
- 2
Make the Coconut Mixture
In a saucepan, combine coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat over low flame until the sugar dissolves. Do not boil.
- 3
Mix Rice with Coconut Mixture
In a large bowl, combine the drained sticky rice with the coconut mixture. Mix well until the rice is evenly coated.
- 4
Prepare Banana Leaves
Soften the banana leaves by briefly passing them over an open flame or boiling water. Cut them into rectangles large enough to wrap the rice and bananas.
- 5
Assemble the Khao Tom Mud
Place a spoonful of the sticky rice mixture onto a piece of banana leaf, add a baby banana on top, and then cover with more sticky rice. Fold the banana leaf around the mixture to create a package.
- 6
Steam the Packages
Place the wrapped packages in a steamer and steam for about 30-40 minutes until the rice is fully cooked and sticky.
- 7
Serve
Remove the packages from the steamer, unwrap, and serve warm. Enjoy your Khao Tom Mud!
