Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, egg, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Using your hands, shape the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs and place them on a plate.

  3. 3

    Cook the Meatballs

In a large skillet over medium heat, add a little olive oil and brown the meatballs on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Onions and Garlic

In the same skillet, add olive oil and heat over medium. Add diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Add the browned meatballs back into the skillet, cover, and let simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Pasta

  1. 7

    Cook the Vermicelli

While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add vermicelli pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 4-6 minutes.

  2. 8

    Drain and Combine

Once cooked, drain the pasta and return it to the pot. You can add a bit of olive oil to prevent sticking if desired.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate the Dish

Serve the cooked vermicelli topped with meatballs and sauce. Garnish with additional parsley or Parmesan cheese if desired.
