Method

Chili Preparation

  1. 1

    Brown the Meat

In a large pot over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, stirring occasionally, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

  2. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper to the pot. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  3. 3

    Add Remaining Ingredients

Stir in the canned tomatoes, kidney beans, chili powder, cumin, salt, black pepper, and water. Mix well.

  4. 4

    Simmer the Chili

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cheese Topping Preparation

  1. 5

    Add Cheese

Once the chili has finished simmering, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top of the chili. Cover the pot again for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve the Chili

Ladle the chili into bowls. Top with a dollop of sour cream and serve with a generous handful of tortilla chips on the side.
