Ingredients for Fish and Chips
Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Tartar Sauce
In a bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, chopped pickles, lemon juice, and capers (if using). Stir well and set aside in the refrigerator to chill.
- 2
Prepare the Potatoes
Peel the potatoes and cut them into thick fries. Rinse them in cold water, then pat them dry with a kitchen towel.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep fryer or large heavy pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Fry the Fries
Fry the potato fries in batches until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt.
- 5
Make the Beer Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Slowly whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and thick.
- 6
Fry the Fish
Dip each fish fillet into the beer batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered fish into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 7
Serve
Serve the crispy beer-battered fish alongside the fries and tartar sauce.
