Method

Filling Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Beef

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the certified Angus beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add Vegetables

Add the chopped onion, diced carrots, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for another 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  3. 3

    Thicken the Filling

Sprinkle the flour over the beef and vegetable mixture, stirring well to combine. Cook for 2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.

  4. 4

    Add Broth and Seasoning

Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Add thyme, salt, and black pepper to taste. Finally, stir in the peas and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

Mashed Potato Preparation

  1. 5

    Boil the Potatoes

Peel and chop the potatoes into uniform pieces. Place them in a large pot, cover with water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 6

    Mash the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add butter and milk, then mash until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 7

    Layer the Filling

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). In a baking dish, spread the beef and vegetable filling evenly across the bottom.

  2. 8

    Top with Mashed Potatoes

Spoon the mashed potatoes over the filling, spreading them out evenly with a spatula. Create peaks for a golden crust.

  3. 9

    Bake the Shepherd's Pie

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

  4. 10

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, let the shepherd's pie cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Enjoy your hearty meal!
