Prepare the batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the beer until the batter is smooth. Let it rest for 15 minutes.

Prepare the fries
Peel and cut the potatoes into thick fries. Rinse them under cold water to remove excess starch. Pat dry with paper towels.

Fry the fish
Dip the cod fillets into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered fish in the hot oil and fry for 4-6 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Homemade Tartar Sauce

Mix the sauce
In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped dill pickles, capers, lemon juice, and fresh dill. Mix well and season with salt and pepper to taste. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Add the beans
Stir in the canned navy beans, brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until heated through.
