Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth (the batter will be thin).

  6. 6

    Bake the Cakes

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Serving Instructions

  1. 8

    Prepare to Serve

Once the cakes are completely cooled, layer one cake on a serving plate.

  2. 9

    Add Frosting (Optional)

If desired, add your favorite frosting between the layers and on top of the cake.

  3. 10

    Slice and Serve

Slice the cake and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side. Garnish with chocolate shavings.
