Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the stout beer, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

  5. 5

    Pour into Pans

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

  6. 6

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool

Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving

  1. 8

    Prepare Toppings

If desired, dust cooled cakes with powdered sugar, serve with whipped cream, and garnish with chocolate shavings.

  2. 9

    Slice and Serve

Slice the cake into wedges and serve at room temperature or chilled.
