Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are okay.

Pour into Pans
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.

Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool
Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

If desired, dust cooled cakes with powdered sugar, serve with whipped cream, and garnish with chocolate shavings.
