Fried Pickles

Method

Fried Pickles

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Drain the jar of dill pickles and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This will help the coating stick better.

  2. 2

    Make the Coating

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Buttermilk

In a separate bowl, pour the buttermilk.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Coat the Pickles

Dip each pickle slice into the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Then dredge it in the flour mixture until fully coated. Repeat for all pickle slices.

  6. 6

    Fry the Pickles

Carefully add coated pickles to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Ranch Dipping Sauce

  1. 7

    Mix the Ingredients

In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, dried dill weed, garlic powder, onion powder, and lemon juice.

  2. 8

    Season the Sauce

Add salt and black pepper to taste, mixing well until all ingredients are incorporated.

  3. 9

    Chill the Sauce

Cover the sauce and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
