Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

  1. 1

    Prepare the Coating

In three separate bowls, set up a breading station. In the first bowl, place the flour. In the second bowl, beat the eggs. In the third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Coat the Cheese Sticks

Take a mozzarella stick and coat it in flour, shaking off any excess. Then, dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated. Repeat this process for all cheese sticks.

  3. 3

    Freeze the Coated Sticks

Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze for at least 30 minutes to an hour. This helps them maintain their shape while frying.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Mozzarella Sticks

Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

  1. 6

    Sauté the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.

  2. 7

    Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chopped fresh basil just before serving.
