Method
Preparing the Sticky Rice
- 1
Soak the Rice
Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak it in water for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
- 2
Steam the Rice
Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer basket lined with cheesecloth. Steam the rice over boiling water for about 30 minutes or until it becomes translucent and tender.
Making the Coconut Sauce
- 3
Prepare Coconut Sauce
In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat while stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Do not let it boil.
- 4
Combine with Rice
Once the sticky rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and pour about 3/4 of the prepared coconut sauce over it. Mix gently to combine and let it sit for 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Preparing the Mango
- 5
Slice the Mango
Peel the ripe mangoes and cut them into thin slices or wedges, removing the pit.
Serving the Dish
- 6
Plate the Dish
To serve, place a portion of the sticky rice on a plate, arrange the mango slices beside it, and drizzle the remaining coconut sauce on top. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or mung beans if desired.
