Dumpling Dough

Method

Dumpling Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add water, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Filling Preparation

  1. 2

    Prepare the Filling

In a medium bowl, combine ground pork, chopped cabbage, green onions, minced garlic, minced ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.

Assembling the Dumplings

  1. 3

    Shape the Dumplings

After the dough has rested, divide it into small pieces and roll each piece into a circle about 3 inches in diameter. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal tightly. You can pleat the edges for a decorative touch.

Cooking the Dumplings

  1. 4

    Steam or Fry the Dumplings

To steam: Place the dumplings in a steamer basket lined with parchment paper and steam over boiling water for about 15-20 minutes. To fry: Heat a tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place dumplings in the skillet and fry until the bottoms are golden brown (about 3-4 minutes), then add a splash of water and cover to steam for an additional 5-7 minutes until cooked through.
