Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare Baking Dish

Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter.

  3. 3

    Slice Potatoes

Peel and thinly slice the potatoes into even rounds, about 1/8 inch thick.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Make Cream Mixture

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute. Stir in the heavy cream, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg. Heat until just simmering.

  2. 5

    Layer Potatoes

Place half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half of the cheddar cheese on top.

  3. 6

    Repeat Layers

Add the remaining potatoes, followed by the remaining cream mixture and the rest of the cheddar cheese.

  4. 7

    Add Topping

In a bowl, combine breadcrumbs and grated Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the top of the gratin.

Baking

  1. 8

    Bake the Gratin

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.

  2. 9

    Cool and Serve

Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
