Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into quarters.

  2. 2

    Prepare Garlic

Peel the garlic cloves and set them aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Boil Potatoes

In a large pot, add the quartered potatoes and salt. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Cook for about 20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

  2. 4

    Add Garlic

In the last 5 minutes of boiling, add the garlic cloves to the pot.

  3. 5

    Drain and Steam

Once the potatoes and garlic are cooked, drain them in a colander and let them steam for a few minutes to remove excess moisture.

Mashing

  1. 6

    Mash Potatoes and Garlic

In the pot, add the drained potatoes and garlic. Use a potato masher to mash them together until smooth.

  2. 7

    Add Butter and Cream

Add the unsalted butter and heavy cream to the mashed potatoes. Mix until the ingredients are well combined and creamy.

  3. 8

    Season to Taste

Add black pepper and adjust salt if necessary. Mix well. If using, fold in chopped chives for added flavor.
