Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Sticky Rice

Soak the sticky rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight. Drain the rice before cooking.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Banana Leaves

Soften the banana leaves by briefly passing them over an open flame or dipping them in hot water. Cut them into squares large enough to hold the rice and bananas.

  3. 3

    Mix the Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the soaked sticky rice, coconut milk, and salt. Mix well until the rice is evenly coated.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Khao Tom Mud

Place a portion of the sticky rice mixture in the center of a banana leaf square. Add a baby banana on top and then cover it with more sticky rice. Fold the banana leaf over to create a parcel and secure it with kitchen twine or toothpicks.

  5. 5

    Steam the Parcels

Set up a steamer and add water. Once boiling, place the parcels in the steamer basket and cover. Steam for about 30-40 minutes or until the sticky rice is fully cooked.

  6. 6

    Serve

Carefully unwrap the banana leaves and serve the Khao Tom Mud warm.
