Fried Brussels Sprouts

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Pickling the Red Onion

Start by preparing the pickled red onion. Thinly slice the red onion and place it in a jar. In a small saucepan, heat the white vinegar and sugar over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Pour the hot vinegar mixture over the sliced onions and let them sit for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Preparing the Brussels Sprouts

While the onions are pickling, rinse the Brussels sprouts and trim the ends. Cut them in half lengthwise.

  3. 3

    Frying the Brussels Sprouts

In a deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the Brussels sprouts cut side down in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  4. 4

    Seasoning

Sprinkle the fried Brussels sprouts with salt and black pepper to taste.

  5. 5

    Serving

Drizzle the ponzu sauce over the fried Brussels sprouts and top with pickled red onion before serving.
