Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Croutons

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine cubed bread, olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Toss until the bread is well coated.

  2. 2

    Bake the Croutons

Spread the bread cubes on a baking sheet in a single layer. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Remove from the oven and let cool.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Kale

While the croutons are baking, wash and dry the kale. Remove the tough stems and chop the leaves into bite-sized pieces.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Egg

In a small saucepan, bring water to a boil. Carefully add the farm egg and cook for 6-7 minutes for a soft-boiled egg. Remove and place in ice water for a minute before peeling.

  5. 5

    Assemble the Salad

In a large bowl, combine kale and half of the grated Manchego cheese. Drizzle with bacon fat and toss to combine. Top with the cheesy croutons and the soft-boiled egg (cut in half). Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top.
