Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork

Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into large chunks for even cooking.

  2. 2

    Make the Rub

In a bowl, mix together brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Rub this mixture all over the pork pieces.

  3. 3

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

  4. 4

    Slow Cook

Place the pork in a slow cooker. Pour in the sautéed onion and garlic, apple cider vinegar, and chicken broth. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shredded.

  5. 5

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any large pieces of fat.

  6. 6

    Mix with BBQ Sauce

Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix in the BBQ sauce. Let it warm through for an additional 15-20 minutes.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the pulled pork on buns, with coleslaw if desired.
