Fried Hot Chicken
Method
Preparation
Marinate the Chicken
In a bowl, combine the buttermilk, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Add the chicken breasts and ensure they are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
Prepare the Battering
In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Remove the chicken from the marinade and let excess buttermilk drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring a good coating.
Fry the Chicken
In a deep skillet, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully place the battered chicken in the oil. Fry until golden brown and cooked through (about 6-8 minutes per side). Remove and drain on paper towels.
Add Nashville Hot Oil
Brush the fried chicken with Nashville hot oil while still hot, ensuring an even coating.
Assemble the Sandwich
On your choice of brioche bun or grilled tortilla, layer the mixed greens, fried chicken, pepper jack cheese, pickled tomatoes, onions, buffalo pickles, and drizzle with sriracha.
Serve
Serve immediately with a side of chips.
