Onion Strings
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them thinly into rings. Place the sliced onions in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to tenderize and flavor the onions.
- 2
Make the Breading
In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika together until well combined.
- 3
Coat the Onions
Remove the onions from the buttermilk and allow excess liquid to drip off. Toss the soaked onions in the flour mixture until fully coated.
- 4
- 5
Fry the Onion Strings
Carefully add the coated onion strings in small batches to the hot oil, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Sprinkle with additional salt if desired and serve warm as a snack or topping for burgers.
