Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Okra
Wash the okra thoroughly under cold water. Cut off the tops and tails, then slice the okra into 1/2-inch pieces.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
- 3
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Okra
Carefully add the coated okra pieces to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Avoid overcrowding the skillet.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried okra with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot as a side dish or snack.
