Preparation of Onion Rings
Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
Prepare the Coating
In a shallow bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, pour the buttermilk. Place the cornflakes in a third bowl and crush them slightly.
Coat the Onion Rings
Take each onion ring and dip it first into the flour mixture, then into the buttermilk, and finally coat it with the crushed cornflakes. Make sure each ring is well coated.
Fry the Onion Rings
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat. Fry the onion rings in batches until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.
