Nigiri Ingredients
Method
Preparation Instructions
Prepare the Sushi Rice
Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Cook the rice in a rice cooker or on the stove according to package instructions. Once cooked, transfer to a bowl.
Season the Rice
In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Gently fold this mixture into the warm sushi rice. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.
Prepare the Fish
Slice the fresh salmon and tuna fillets into thin slices. Ensure the cuts are clean and even for the best presentation.
Prepare the Shrimp
Boil the shrimp in salted water for 2-3 minutes until they turn pink. Remove from the water and immediately place in an ice bath to stop the cooking process. Peel and set aside.
Assemble the Nigiri
Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking. Take a small amount of sushi rice (about 2 tablespoons) and shape it into an oval. Place a slice of salmon or tuna on top of the rice. For shrimp, place it on top with the curve facing up. Optionally, add a small dab of wasabi between the rice and fish.
Garnish and Serve
Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of the nigiri for garnish. Serve with soy sauce on the side for dipping.
