Classic Tomato Sauce

1. Sauté the Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Then add the minced garlic and sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

2. Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and stir to combine. Add the dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

3. Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. This will help the flavors meld together.

4. Finish with Fresh Basil

Once the sauce has thickened slightly, stir in the fresh basil. Adjust seasoning if needed and remove from heat.

5. Melt the Butter

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter completely, taking care not to brown it.
