Method
Dough Preparation

Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm environment for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Filling Preparation

Cook Sausage
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian ground sausage until browned and fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.

Combine Filling Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, Italian seasoning, and black pepper. Mix well.
Assemble and Bake

Roll Out Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.

Fill and Roll
Spread the filling mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Roll the dough tightly into a log and seal the edges.

Bake
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the rolled sausage roll on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing into pieces.
