Dough

Dipping Sauce (optional)

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let rise in a warm environment for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 5

    Cook Sausage

In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian ground sausage until browned and fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.

  2. 6

    Combine Filling Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, Italian seasoning, and black pepper. Mix well.

Assemble and Bake

  1. 7

    Roll Out Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.

  2. 8

    Fill and Roll

Spread the filling mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border. Roll the dough tightly into a log and seal the edges.

  3. 9

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the rolled sausage roll on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

  4. 10

    Cool and Slice

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before slicing into pieces.

Serving

  1. 11

    Serve with Dipping Sauce

Serve warm with BBQ sauce or extra marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
