Method
Baking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (110°F/43°C) with honey and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine rye flour, bread flour, salt, and caraway seeds. Mix well.
- 3
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough starts to form.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- 6
Shape the Dough
After the first rise, punch down the dough to release air. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- 7
- 8
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 9
Bake the Bread
Bake the bread in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- 10
Cool
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
