Method
Preparation Steps
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture along with olive oil. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the Bread
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into an oval shape, about 1/2 inch thick.
Second Rise
Cover the shaped dough with a cloth and let it rest for another 30 minutes.
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a baking stone, place it in the oven to heat.
Bake the Naan
Transfer the naan to the preheated oven (or onto the baking stone) and bake for about 8-10 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
