Pizza Dough and Toppings
Method
Preparation and Baking
Make the Dough
In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Combine Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Sauce
While the dough is rising, crush the canned tomatoes in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to the highest setting (around 475°F or 245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.
Shape the Pizza
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
Add Toppings
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, then add sliced mozzarella cheese and fresh basil leaves.
Bake the Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
Serve
Remove from the oven, let cool for a minute, slice, and enjoy your Margherita pizza!
