Patty Melt Ingredients

Method

Cooking Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Slice the medium onion into thin rings. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the onions and a pinch of salt, sauté until they are caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally.

  2. 2

    Form the Patty

While the onions are cooking, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Form it into a patty about 3/4 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patty

In the same skillet, push the onions to one side and add the beef patty. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until it reaches your desired doneness. Place the Swiss cheese on top of the patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Patty Melt

Spread mayonnaise on one side of each slice of marble rye bread. On the non-mayo side, layer the sautéed onions, followed by the cheeseburger patty. Top with the other slice of bread, mayo side out.

  5. 5

    Grill the Sandwich

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add the sandwich. Grill each side for about 3-4 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve hot.
