Slushy Margarita Base

Method

Prep & Rim

  1. 1

    Chill and prepare glass

If possible, chill the yard cup in the freezer for 10–15 minutes while you prepare ingredients. This helps keep the slushy cold longer.

  2. 2

Rub a lime wedge around the rim of the yard cup. Spread the coarse salt or sugar on a small plate and press the rim into it to evenly coat. Set the cup aside.

Make the Slushy Margarita Base

  1. 3

In a blender, combine blanco tequila (6 oz), triple sec (2 oz), fresh lime juice (3 oz), simple syrup (1.5 oz), elderflower liqueur (0.5 oz, if using), and cold water (4 oz). Pulse once to combine.

  2. 4

Add ice (6 cups) to the blender. Secure lid and blend on high until a smooth, slushy consistency forms. If the mixture is too thin, add 1 cup more ice and blend again. If it's too stiff to pour, add up to 2 tablespoons cold water and pulse to loosen.

Create the Paris Slushy Color/Flavor Swirl

  1. 5

Pour about two-thirds of the blended slushy into a large pitcher (or directly into the chilled yard cup, holding back some for layering).

  2. 6

Rinse the blender briefly and add the reserved slushy (or 1–2 cups of the poured slushy) back into the blender with blue curaçao (0.75 oz). Pulse just enough to evenly color the slushy a soft blue. Transfer this blue slushy to a squeeze bottle or small pitcher for easier layering.

  3. 7

Rinse the blender again. Add a small portion (about 1–1.5 oz worth) of the blended slushy back to the blender with raspberry puree or grenadine (0.75 oz). Pulse to create a pink/red slushy for the swirl. Transfer to another small container or squeeze bottle.

  4. 8

To assemble a layered/swirl effect, fill the rimmed yard cup about 2/3 full with the uncolored slushy. Over the top, drizzle or gently spoon the blue slushy in a spiral to create streaks. Add small drops or thin streams of the raspberry slushy in a few spots and then use a straw or spoon to gently swirl the colors once or twice — avoid over-mixing to preserve distinct colors.

Finish & Garnish

  1. 9

Garnish the rim with a lime wheel and tuck a few fresh raspberries or an edible flower on top for a Paris-chic presentation. Add a straw and serve immediately.

  2. 10

If serving multiple yard cups, keep leftover slushy in the blender container in the freezer for up to 1 hour; re-blend briefly before pouring to restore texture.
